Rubberized Asphalt Demonstration Road Section Constructed in St. Petersburg, Russia

Earlier this year, RuBind Inc. and Consulpav completed their collaborative construction of a demonstration section of road utilizing rubberized asphalt near St. Petersburg, Russia.

The project, which took place in June 2013, involved the construction of a 300 meter long section of five centimeter thick rubberized asphalt on the Ring Road (south) outside of St. Petersburg.

The RuBind GAP mix used for the project was produced and placed by a contractor, Asphaltobetonny Zavod № 1 (ABZ № 1). Vladimir Kalinin served as project coordinator and Dr. Natalia Maidanova was project supervisor.

Composed of plain soft bitumen, fine crumb rubber and an activated mineral binder stabilizer, RuBind is an elastomeric asphalt extender that can be added in various proportions to any type of hot asphalt mix to replace part of the asphalt cement.

For more information about this project, visit www.rubind.com, contact Dr. Jorge B. Sousa at jorge.b.sousa@gmail.com or review the project profile (PDF).
